Marci Ritter: Inspired to Succeed
While working full-time, raising four kids and coping with the loss of her father, Marci Ritter was determined to continue her education. “I knew I would need a lot of support and wasn't sure I could make it work,” said Marci. Despite facing numerous challenges at home and in school, Marci kept moving forward, one day at a time.
“The decision to do better for myself so my children may follow in my footsteps was the deciding factor,” said Marci. Although her children were the reason she aspired to pursue an education, Marci recognizes her student advisor, Nia, as the one who inspired her to keep going. Nia advocated for Marci and supported her when she needed it the most. Nia’s ongoing encouragement assisted Marci in becoming the role model she wanted to be for her children.
Marci graduated Summa Cum Laude from Miller-Motte in April 2017. As the first person in her immediate family to graduate from college, Marci credits Nia for helping her stay motivated. “A voice of reason…a friend to talk to,” Marci said Nia went above and beyond to help a struggling student succeed.
