                  Courses You’ll Take in the Criminal Justice Program

                  While at Miller-Motte College, you will receive the training and education you’ll need to graduate with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice and begin protecting and serving your family, friends and community.

                  Below are a few Criminal Justice courses you will take through the program:

                  • Contemporary Issues in Criminal Justice: In this course the students will observe the principle issues in contemporary criminal justices as well as the future predictions. The students will focus on the three components of Criminal Justice, court, police and corrections; past, present and future. The students will also participate in analytical review and discussion at the local, state, federal and global levels of the Criminal Justice System. 
                  • Juvenile Justice: This course explores the evolution and development of the juvenile justice system. Juvenile delinquent behavior, theory, cause, and prevention are examined. Biological, psychological and sociological factors are considered as cases of juvenile crime are viewed from the perspective of the juvenile justice system and its current practices. 
                  • Introduction to Law Enforcement: This course will study America’s history of Law Enforcement to present day operations. The course covers the creation of Law Enforcement in America, the evolution of training, the role of law enforcement officials in society, common operating policies and procedures, modern day challenges for law enforcement professionals, organizational components and processes, the administration of justice and the overall health and well-being of law enforcement professionals.

                  Not only will you receive a vast amount of information from the classroom, you’ll be able to get hands-on experience by participating in an externship, allowing you to enhance your skills and training in a real world work setting.                   Court Clerk
                  As a Court Clerk, you’ll be a vital member in the criminal justice system. You will use organizational skills to manage court records, take accurate notes, prepare court agendas and communicate directly with lawyers and judges. You will ensure that courtroom procedures run smoothly.

                  Correctional Officer and Jailer
                  As a Correctional Officer and Jailer, you will be responsible for overseeing convicted criminals and those awaiting trial. You may also be responsible for transporting prisoners to and from the courthouse. You will monitor prisoner conduct, search for weapons, drugs, or other contraband, along with a variety of other tasks required to maintain safety.

                  Security Guard
                  As a Security Guard, you will help to ensure that your community stays safe. In this position, you may find yourself working in a business complex or commercial enterprise where you will use your knowledge and training to maintain safety and to prevent vandalism, crime and terrorism. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts the demand for Security Guards will increase by 12% by the year 2022.

We also offer 100% online programs through our Wilmington location (Business Administration, Criminal Justice, IT Support Specialist and Medical Billing and Coding).
