What You’ll Learn During Massage Therapist Training at Miller-Motte College

At Miller-Motte College, we are dedicated to providing students with the education and training needed to find a satisfying and enduring career. Our instructors have Massage Therapy experience and will teach you common massage techniques, share insights and advice.

Below are just a few courses you’ll take while attending a school that offers massage therapy:

  • Massage Pathology: In this core class, you’ll learn about how the human body fights various diseases and how massage therapy can help clients with different symptoms. Topics covered are common diseases, medical terminology and body systems.
  • Swedish Massage: In this course, you will learn how to perform a Swedish Massage, one of the most popular massage types in the United States. You will be taught proper massage techniques and will practice them in our own massage laboratory.
  • Hydrotherapy & Aromatherapy: This course will provide fundamental knowledge of how you can use warm or cold applications and homeopathic essential oils during your therapy routine. You’ll also be taught how the external use of water and oils can be used for therapeutic purposes.

You’ll also have several “Student Clinic” courses. During these clinical courses, you will have the opportunity to practice interacting with clients in the school’s spa. You will be able to improve your massage skills while gaining experience in the administrative side of Massage Therapy. You’ll schedule appointments and maintain client records so that after graduation, you’ll be ready to take your skills and knowledge to the job you’ve been dreaming about.

Career Opportunities in Massage Therapy

Massage Therapist

Massage Therapists use their training and knowledge of therapeutic massage techniques to relieve stress, sore muscles and release tension. A Massage Therapist can work in a number of locations, and commonly set their own hours. As a Massage Therapist, you could work in resorts, salons, chiropractic offices, fitness centers, cruise ships, physician’s offices or anywhere else where people need to relieve stress and relax.

Postsecondary Health Specialist Teacher

As a licensed Massage Therapist, you can teach courses as a Postsecondary Health Specialist. You will create class lesson plans, monitor students’ progress and share your knowledge and experience. You’ll teach students the proper massage therapy techniques and provide the education they need to move along their path to a new career. In order to become a Postsecondary Health Specialist Teacher, you will need to complete additional state requirements.
