                  This is a Hybrid track program. What does this mean for you? You will take most of your coursework online with video, audio and text-based lessons and interactive discussion groups. You’ll then spend a few hours each week at the campus for face-to-face training. It’s the best of both worlds, for your convenience.

                  This allows you to earn your Associate of Occupational Science degree in as little as 18 months.                   Criminal Justice Classes

                  After earning your Associate of Occupational Science degree in Criminal Justice, you’ll be able to use your training and knowledge to protect and serve. In order to earn your degree in as little as 18 months, you’ll take a variety of classes like:

                  • Criminology: This course examines causation, criminal deviation and processes in criminal justice. Criminal typology and patterns are studied as well as the social, economic, and psychological forces involved in the perpetration of a crime.
                  • Essentials of Security Operations & Loss Prevention: Principles and concepts in physical security, loss control and crime prevention are studied in this course. Security measures and countermeasures are examined. You will be introduced to how to conduct a security survey and prepare a written plan pertaining to the results of the survey. You’ll learn the State standards for being a security officer and how to maintain the certification.
                  • Information Security & Cyber Crime: This course explains the role of the criminal justice professional within information security including an understanding of cybercrime, cyber-victimization and cyberterrorism as well as forensic investigations and information security risk assessment.

                  Careers in Criminal Justice

                  At Miller-Motte Technical College, we prepare students for a successful career after graduation. Once you’ve earned your Associate of Occupational Science Degree in Criminal Justice, you’ll have the knowledge and skills needed to protect and serve your community.

                  There are many careers in Criminal Justice that may be of interest to you. A few these include:

                  • Court Clerk: Court Clerks work closely with lawyers, judges and paralegals to ensure everything runs according to plan in the courtroom. You’ll use your organizational skills to schedule meetings, take notes, manage court records and prepare legal documents along with other administrative tasks.
                  • Correctional Officer and Jailer: As a Correctional Officer and Jailer, you’ll be responsible for maintaining order within the prison system. You may search prisoners and jail cells for drugs, weapons or illegal contraband and keep inmates and the public safe while transporting inmates to and from court.
                  • Security Guard: As a Security Guard, you could work in a variety of businesses and environments as you help keep people safe. You’ll monitor building premises for evidence of crime and be responsible for reporting illegal activity. Others will look to you to keep employees and buildings safe. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts the demand for Security Guards will increase by 12% by the year 2022.
