                  When you enroll in Criminal Justice classes, you can earn your Criminal Justice Associate of Applied Science degree in as little as 18 months. With the training and education you gain, you’ll be well on your way to a meaningful career. Our Criminal Justice program has served students like you in Wilmington, Leland, Carolina Beach, Burgaw and Hampstead.

                  Plus, this is a Hybrid track program. What does this mean for you? You will take most of your coursework online with video, audio and text-based lessons and interactive discussion groups. You’ll then spend a few hours each week at the campus for face-to-face training. It’s the best of both worlds, for your convenience.

                  What You Will Gain from Wilmington’s Criminal Justice Training Program

                  When you take Criminal Justice courses, you will be gaining much more than a Criminal Justice Associate of Applied Science degree. You will learn the knowledge and skills necessary for a career helping to protect and serve your community. Here are a few training and education classes you can take in our Criminal Justice program:

                  • Fundamentals of Criminal Law & Procedures: This comprehensive course, covering both substantive criminal law and criminal procedures, examines crimes against persons, property and the public, as well as the law enforcement and justice system proceedings that follow. A specific segment on this topic includes the state’s criminal law and procedure statutes. 
                  • Communications for CJ Professionals: An introduction to written communication for the criminal justice professional. Students are introduced to the various forms and reports encountered by criminal justice practitioners. Emphasis is placed on sentence and paragraph structure, organization, content and clarity along with the use of proper spelling and grammar. Note taking, report writing and preparing search and arrest warrants and warrant affidavits are examined.
                  • Criminal Investigations: This course explores the theory and scope of criminal investigation as well as the duties and responsibilities of the investigator such as: developing intelligence, investigations and the law, interview and interrogation and investigative report writing. Other areas of concentration consist of investigating homicide and wound scenes, sexual assaults, gang crime scenes, robbery and property crimes, computer crimes and drug crime scenes. The techniques and strategies used in investigation and basic crime scene processing, identifying, collecting and preserving evidence are also addressed.

                  Correctional Officer and Jailer

                  Correctional Officers and Jailers are responsible for keeping communities safe by watching over and aiding in the rehabilitation process for inmates. They supervise and often provide transportation to prisoners.

                  Court Clerk

                  Court Clerks are an essential part of the criminal justice system. They keep the courtroom running smoothly by communicating directly with judges and lawyers, preparing court dockets and taking accurate notes.

                  Security Guard

                  Security Guards play an important role in providing safety to communities and businesses by ensuring the safety of citizens through the prevention of crime, vandalism and terrorism.

                  Miller-Motte College has 11 convenient locations and offers Beauty & Wellness, Business, Healthcare, Protective Services, Skilled Trades-CDL and Technology courses and programs. We also offer 100% online programs through our Wilmington location (Business Administration, Criminal Justice, IT Support Specialist and Medical Billing and Coding). All graduates have access to Career Assistance which includes guidance from our Career Services team, resume updates, workshops and more.
