What You’ll Learn in Our Paralegal Program

Our unique Paralegal program combines classroom instruction, hands-on learning and real world work experience. In our classrooms, you’ll learn about legal research and writing, various laws and regulations and so much more. Our experienced instructors will teach you the practical skills you’ll need in the field. Here are just a few of the Paralegal courses you'll take to complete your Associate of Applied Science in Paralegal:

  • Legal Office Systems: This course introduces students to legal procedures common to a law office. You’ll learn how to set priorities, work under pressure and complete the tasks you’ll be assigned in your new career.
  • Legal Research and Writing: In this course, you’ll learn the basics of legal research and writing. Assignments include writing legal documents such as correspondence, legal briefs and more.
  • Business Law: This course offers an overview of business laws and courtroom procedures. Discussion topics include trusts, leases, contracts, insurance and more.

Near the end of your Paralegal and Legal Secretary training, you’ll complete an externship at a local business, which will not only give you the opportunity to get hands-on practical training, but it will also provide you with the work experience many employers look for in new hires.

Paralegal/Legal Assistant

Paralegals perform crucial tasks for lawyers by conducting legal research and preparing legal documents. Using your knowledge of the U.S. court system and legal software, you’ll be an important part of the legal team, keeping your law office running smoothly.

Claims Examiner

Claims Examiners work for health and life insurance companies. You’ll be responsible for reviewing complex insurance cases to determine things like whether a claim should be approved and the amount of compensation owed.
