Our Medical Clinical Assistant program uses hands-on learning to help students prepare for entry-level healthcare careers in 13 to 15 months! Practice performing capillary sticks, updating and maintaining electronic health records (EHRs), taking medical histories and more. Enrollment is on a rolling basis and programs start every five to 10 weeks!

Externship opportunities are available for students in this program.

Study medical terminology, medical abbreviations, bodily structures, functions, and common conditions/diseases.

Dig deeper into the administrative tasks performed in healthcare positions. Practice organizing assigned tasks and setting priorities as a member of a healthcare team.

Practice using computer software. In this course, students may study, practice, and improve computer skills to provide administrative support in an office or clinical setting.

Practice performing capillary sticks, microscopic examinations, safely obtaining samples, and following up with patients regarding their test results.

Examine commonly prescribed medications, medication terminology, effects and impact on the human body, and toxicity.

Practice preparing patients for exams and gain confidence supporting physicians before, during, and after patient examinations and treatments.

Explore the disease process and its impact on the human body. Practice educating patients on the disease process, prevention measures, and health maintenance.

A Medical Clinical Assistant performs a wide range of tasks in healthcare settings, assisting both doctors and patients. Some typical duties they perform include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing patient records and scheduling appointments.
  • Taking and recording vital signs, medical histories, and patient information.
  • Assisting with medical procedures and maintaining sterile environments.

The time it takes to become a Medical Clinical Assistant varies depending on the program you choose. Miller-Motte College’s Medical Clinical Assisting program can typically be completed in about 13 to 15 months.

While certification* is not strictly required to become a Medical Clinical Assistant, obtaining certification may increase your job prospects and earning potential.

Medical Assistants typically perform both clinical and administrative duties, which may include scheduling appointments, billing, coding, and managing medical records. Clinical Medical Assistants, however, focus more on the clinical side of healthcare, including tasks like taking patient histories, assisting with examinations, administering injections, and preparing patients for procedures.
