Medical Coding involves translating medical diagnoses, procedures, and services into standardized codes using systems like ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS. These codes are used for insurance claims and medical records. Medical Billing focuses on submitting and following up on claims to insurance companies and patients, so that healthcare providers can be paid for their services.

Medical billers and coders work closely with healthcare professionals, insurance companies, and patients to promote the proper processing of medical claims and efficient healthcare administration.

Medical Coding focuses on assigning standardized codes to medical diagnoses and procedures based on a patient’s medical records and healthcare services provided. Coders are responsible for translating medical terms into codes for accurate documentation and insurance claims.

Medical Billing is the process of submitting and tracking claims to insurance companies and patients for services provided. Billers properly document procedures and help the healthcare provider receive compensation for the care given.

While certification is not always required to work as a Medical Coder, many employers prefer or may even require it. Obtaining certification can enhance your job prospects, increase your earning potential, and demonstrate a commitment to the profession.

Our Medical Billing and Coding program incorporates certification prep into the coursework to better prepare graduates for life after our training.
