Train for Exciting Dental Assisting Careers at Miller-Motte

Our Dental Assisting programs prepare graduates to pursue entry-level careers in 18 months or less. We train our students to properly handle dental materials, take and read x-rays, schedule appointments, and more. Students are also prepared to properly dispose of hazardous materials as well as decontaminate and sterilize workspaces.

Students can develop their chair-side manner and refine their skills through hands-on labs and practicums.

Our three Dental Assisting program tracks include a diploma track, degree track, and degree completion track. Our degree completion track is only available for graduates of our Dental Assisting diploma program. Credits earned from the Dental Assisting diploma program are counted towards the degree completion program.

Diploma Track – Hybrid – Chattanooga, TN; Tulsa, OK

Skills You'll Cover in the dental assisting Program

Review the history of and terminology for head, neck, and oral cavity structures. Familiarize yourself with how teeth are formed, how they are arranged, how they are categorized, and more.

Train for your CPR and First Aid certifications. Review common drugs used in dentistry, their intended use, potential side effects, and how they interact with each other.

Analyze the properties and structure of impression materials, restorative materials, whitening trays, and other commonly used dental materials. Familiarize yourself with the proper procedures to store, handle, and use these materials. 

Practice reading dental charts, preparing rooms and patients for upcoming appointments, educating patients on oral hygiene, and more. Expand your knowledge on dentistry tools and materials in preparation for your upcoming externship.

Gain exposure to principles and procedures relating to dental radiology. Practice taking and examining X-rays to examine the state of a patient’s oral health.

Familiarize yourself with administrative tasks such as record keeping, appointment scheduling, navigating work systems, and more.

Practice building databases, scheduling appointments, entering patient payments, and more. Train to assist dentists, hygienists, and front-end office staff with capturing or updating patient information.

Become familiar with basic microbiology concepts and their impact on infection control and hazardous waste management. You will be exposed to the proper procedures for decontaminating and sterilizing your workspace to protect the health of you, your coworkers, and patients.
