The Duties of a Dental Assistant
Dental Assistants work closely with dentists and patients. They make sure patient charts are up-to-date and that dental procedures are completed safely and on-time. As a Dental Assistant you’ll be responsible for:
- Preparing instruments by sterilizing them for each procedure
- Mixing materials under the supervision of a dentist
- Documenting dental services and recording patient data
- Teaching patients about dental hygiene
- Developing radiographs
- Maintaining, troubleshooting and arranging for equipment repairs
- Managing equipment and supply inventory
Dental assistants are an important part of any dental office. You will often be the first person that patients speak to while waiting for their procedures. You can make patients feel comfortable by answering their questions and addressing their concerns. As a result, people who enjoy working with others and making people feel at ease are perfect candidates to become Dental Assistants.
